Verbindungen - Zeitgeist, by María Silvia Sayús, 2008
In a peaceful workshop in Chacarita, María Emilia Marroquín lives among artworks that speak about time and its plot. Geometric shapes traced with earth, wood, metal and that subtly form sequences and spatial games. In a playful way she builds objects, some planes that seek the vertical or the diagonal and that combine the warmth of polished wood or its rough roughness with the coldness of metal for industrial use. Always balance, and so many dualities synthesize. The movement is frozen or not, decisively alluded to in curves and straight lines that continue in the viewer's mind.
Heir to the sculptural currents of her time, in M.E.M traces of an Iommi, of a Blazsko are present, with an almost minimalist plasticity.
Abstraction, but not so concrete. A little invention, a little mimesis of what exists. The blow of the hammer or mallet is palpable and the passing of the brush is noticed. They are eloquent objects, with their own strength and autonomy.
.
Sensitive constructions, fragments of past instances in a new order. A present with traces of the past, as always.
